CANADIAN OUTDOOR RECREATION EDUCATOR 2008

The outdoor adventure and education industry is becoming more and more popular. People are flocking to the out of doors for climbing, canoeing, skiing, rafting, and a multitude of other activities. With increasing popularity comes opportunities for a valid career in the outdoor industry. It is a career that offers challenge, satisfaction, enjoyment, and a chance to have a positive influence on the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of a program being offered by Equinox Adventures. This program was the first of it's kind in southern Ontario and is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the outdoor adventure and education industries. The program is called the Canadian Outdoor Recreation Educators Program ( C.O.R.E. ). Each year sees a growing demand for qualified outdoor adventure and educational staff, and an increase in the minimum requirements needed to be competitive. This is why C.O.R.E. was created.

The C.O.R.E. program is modeled after the world famous Plas-y-Brenein 90 day outdoor education course in North Wales, Great Britain. Upon successful completion of the C.O.R.E. Program students will become certified instructors in a number of different skills. These certifications are with third party accredited instructional organizations specific to each skill and are what employers are now looking for in their adventure and educational staff.

There are many varied post secondary training programs that are designed to help students get involved in the outdoor adventure and education industries. C.O.R.E. directors and staff through years of experience in the field have noticed a common challenge in all of these programs; they fail to adequately certify or develop the hard skill and activity experience that outdoor adventure and educational institutions now require from their staff. C.O.R.E. is a program that fills this void and helps students to be more marketable in what is now becoming a very competitive career choice.
